(A perspective on roles of Indian Women)

Its really exciting to write on this topic. I am thankful to my friend who tagged me.

As we all know….a girl is born……she is a daughter, a sister….then she grows up to be a friend…. .then a wife………a daughter in law… a sister in law…a mother in law…a sister in law…AND beside all these roles.. modern woman has a professional life also.

Whatever role she is playing….I feel the person inside remains the same. The mechanism of handling the nuances of life may differ in personal and professional life, but the basic thought process remains same. In India there are so many religions and caste….that also influences a woman’s role.

Things have changed drastically over last 3-4 decades……resulting in huge generational gap. Life is very very simple……..if we all accept ourselves the way we are……it will be a happy world. Modern day women have many roles to play and many issues to handle in a day…….each one is working towards perfection…negotiating the rough patches of life.

They also have a peculiar urge of excelling in all fields ….. which is giving birth to lot of negative emotions.. anger, frustration, which further leads to mistrust, disrespect and the result is more and more insecurities.

Well, when we talk about the various roles a woman plays in one lifetime………..each role , I think is equally important, so when a girl is growing up , her holistic grooming is very important. A girl should be groomed to be a confident lady, who is not dependent on anyone emotionally, one who knows her weakness and strength, one who knows where and when to draw a line. Somehow I feel today’s Women need to have desires limited by what she has, …….they are in the rat race (which reflects lack of confidence)………they want to be perfect daughter, perfect mother, perfect wife and a perfect professional……..which is if not impossible, not possible either. It’s a constant effort and as long as one is honest with her effort ……...its just fine.

A saw a movie last year, now don’t remember the name. In that movie the mother gives up her singing career in London to move to India and becomes a housewife. Her static life leads to such a change in her character that her small daughter starts to believe that her mother is an alien……..

I feel…….….that..its better to be a failure than an alien…..
